There comes a moment — whether you're sitting with a spark of an idea or standing in front of a blank structure — when it's time to begin. To move from planning into action. To start creating installations that not only elevate your artistry but also elevate your business.
If developing your own brand of floral installations is on your checklist for this year, you'll want to check out my Installations Masterclass. I'm offering 50% OFF plus eight bonuses worth over $1400 until May 4th. Take a closer look now, it's packed with All The Good Stuff. Explore, right here.
However, like any good strategy, seldom does it depend on one instance or one occurrence or one event. When we branch out into installations, I am a big believer that we need to do it on a regular basis.
You can't just do one and put it on your homepage, or tuck it into your portfolio and hope for the best. You have to create several. You have to build almost a separate portfolio — a new layer to your creative offering — that shows and demonstrates your expertise in this area. When we’re building any kind of momentum — a new product, a campaign, a business — it’s never enough to do it once and cross your fingers. Because then you're only going to attract the attention of the handful of people who might see it on that one occasion.
It needs to become part of your repertoire. Part of your signature. Something you do time and time again. And in doing so — consistently and confidently — you not only build your skills, but you also begin to tell a new story about your business. You begin to showcase that installations aren’t just something you can do — they’re something you’re known for.
That message begins to land across all the channels you use — your website, your social media, your emails, even your storefront window. It quietly, powerfully reinforces to your audience: this is what I do. This is what I’m excellent at. This is why you should book me.
And here's the hidden magic — when people start to notice your installations, they also start to notice you. Your work draws them in, but your creativity, your vision, your brand — that’s what stays with them. Floral installations are not just artistic statements. They’re powerful marketing tools that get your business seen, talked about, and remembered.
So, when you go about the business of creating these fabulous, showstopping pieces, I want you to bear a few points in mind. Don’t just aim to capture the finished installation. Try to get as much content as you can of the making of it — behind the scenes, the mechanics, the decisions, the magic in progress.
Of course, the finished images and final video are incredibly important — that’s what will take people’s breath away. But by sharing the journey, the story, the effort — you give people a glimpse into you. You bring them closer. You let them see the person behind the petals. And in doing so, you cultivate a deeper connection with your audience.
When you’re creating a self-initiated installation — something you’re doing for your own growth, your own brand — it only benefits you to rework the piece. I know, it might sound a little wild at first, but hear me out. If you’re already investing the time, the materials, the flowers, the framework — and if it’s a self-initiated piece, hopefully you’ve carved out enough time to do it properly — then why not push it further?
Remake it in several ways. Shift the shape. Change the form. Use the same flowers, or swap them for something new. Photograph it in a new setting. Film it from a different angle. Each of these small changes gives you a whole new piece of content to share — and you’re still working with the same foundation.
It’s a little trick I use often. If I’m planning a design that involves a bespoke structure, I might share the framework first. Just that. Let people guess. Let them wonder. Then, a few days or weeks later, I’ll share the final, blooming design. And those who’ve been watching will spot the transformation.
It’s not only practical — it’s strategic. The more mileage you get from one design, the more you can share, the more chances you create for people to see your work — and by extension, see your business.
And of course, think practically. Reuse, repurpose, recycle. If you’re working with bamboo canes or water spikes or chicken wire, don’t toss them. Use them again. Not only is this financially savvy — it's also sustainable. And let’s be honest, sustainability is no longer optional in our industry — it’s essential.
But perhaps the most important note to finish on is this: consistency is key. There is no magic pill, no perfect shortcut. It comes down to applying yourself, honing your craft, and repeating that excellence again and again.
If you embrace floral installations as a regular, intentional part of your practice, not only will your skill grow, but your presence will grow. Your audience will start to see you differently. They’ll talk about your work. They’ll share it. They’ll remember it. And they’ll come to you when they want something extraordinary.
So take centre stage. Create the work. Share the journey. Let your installations speak — not just of beauty, but of who you are as a creative, and what your business stands for.
